Murillo - Lessons in Charity

About

Claudia Castellucci (Cesena, 1958) presents a living artwork inspired by the act of begging, drawing from 17th-century painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, known for his portraits of young beggars. Her piece blends dance, theatre, and visual art, exploring the emotional weight of giving and receiving. Murillo’s art, once exclusive, became widely accessible through cheap prints — a shift Castellucci echoes through her work. In Murillo, stillness and movement meet in a poetic tension. Castellucci is a Silver Lion winner and co-founder of Societas Raffaello Sanzio.
