Amsterdam is celebrating 750 years of vibrant history, but its story stretches back much further. Neolithic artifacts hint at human presence millennia ago. Founded as a quaint fishing village in the 13th century, the city flourished during the Middle Ages and emerged as the epicenter of the Golden Age in the 17th century, famously marked by the establishment of the Amsterdam Stock Exchange (if you want know more about it, read our post about the Tulip Season). Despite facing wars and periods of decline, Amsterdam has risen to become a global symbol of culture, innovation and freedom.
